Now one week into the Pro-197 and "object-oriented" scanning. Pretty comfortable with the operation of the radio, graduating for the Pro-2096, which is no slouch in the scanner department and a great radio in its own right. So why the purchase? Well, the Radio Shack F&F discount plus the $100 off discount essentially made it a no-brainer--- that coupled with the 30 day return policy definately...

I use 2 Icom-AH7000 discone and i tested it againt the Diamond-D150/Comet-DS3000 and the antennas are 8 metres high and they dont even come close on performance compare to the Icom and using 20 metres of Belden-9913 low loss cable. Greetings, most scanner antennas are rated at 50 ohms, and a good quality coax is most often available in 50 ohms... its a pretty good match. The discone antenna you will be installing is in the same family as the 1/4 wave antenna which was designed to perform best for the wide frequency bandwidth. You should most likely experience 0 db of gain with a discone antenna and it will operate best ...

Thanks for all the help. This site really gave me a good understanding of the difference. I will go with the Belden 9913. It seems to have acceptable loss with not a lot of cost. I will be using it on the 2m/70cm bands, because we don't use the 6m band that often where I live. Again, thanks to everyone for the help.
