In the even of buyout, either preferred stocks to be converted to common equal to its face value or the buyer will payoff for its original face value. Preferred stock holders get those gem at the such bargin price are winners in any ways. If common stock can get any thing, Preferred stock got to get paid to its full face value. got that means?

The preferred stocks is different than common stocks traded in market. The preferred stock has its face value, company has obligation to payoff or distribute equal assets,such as stocks. It is way much safer than trading stock. trading common stocks in fact just making profit the different from buy and sell. Preferred one, especially the B. K one. you have huge potential to get in for its original...

Question As a retired investor seeking income I have been thinking of purchasing preferred stocks. I can keep them for many years without worrying about selling them at depressed market prices. Dp you think that banks that are participating in the TARP program will be able to make payments to preferred stockholders after covering the 5% senior preferred stock they had to sell to the Treasury?...

Correct me if i'm wrong but are preffered stocks backstopped by the bailout and thus buying an etf such as PGF with financials is nearly risk free? _________________ LMR

Recs: 4 Preferred stocks If you haven't been following pfd stock prices closely..........well, probably saved some worry for yourself. None the less, they have dropped to incredible levels. Unfortunately the bottom has not been found yet. Who knows, maybe today. Whether they continue down or not, most present good entry points now for income investors.......imho. Thought i...

The article seems to postulate that stock options are one cause of these stocks to rise. This doesn't make sense to me. First, I don't think preferred share are given as stock options. Second, only stock options given in the last few weeks would not be under water. And those same shares probably wouldn't even be partially vested, so no sales of those shares any time soon.

And it's funny watching the MM's shale all 4 WAMU stocks. Few are getting shaken out in the preferred but there are a lot of scared people in the common.
