UPDATE!!!!!!!!!! So on Oct. 02, 2008 $10k magically appeared in my checking acct. At first I was shark and scared that the bank had made a mistake. I have since investigated and find that the money really is mine. I had put in a case with the SSI office a year ago about some numbers not matching up and then I forget about it. So now I have well had $10898 now I have $9K sitting in...

OK, I know I've made mistakes with credit, but I'm on the right foot now, and am making so much money I can pay all my high balances (I owe about 10 grand) and still invest (before I was just investing). I have somebody who is willing to make me an authorized user on one of their CCs. (It would be one with a 25k limit - they use the card but never go over 2k a month on it, and paid in ...

I saw a few months ago on a cable show (It takes a Thief, maybe?) that they make security films for windows now that prevent someone from smashing and grabbing. I can find places online that install but do they not sell this stuff at hardware stores for DIYers? I couldn't find any online at Lowes or Home Depot.

I am looking for an ETF, preferably closed-ended with a large discount to NAV which invests in MBS or more generally ABS. For the NAV to mean anything it would be good if the assets of that fund had a liquid market of some sort. I don't know how the asset calculations for these funds are done exactly - do I run the risk that I buy a fund, the assets are marked "to myth", and 2 weeks ...

Like many of you, I've been focused on finding the best investment prospects for new money and allocating $$ effectively among them, to take advantage of the values created by widespread pessimism in today's market - all the while trying to avoid getting cut by falling knives..... I've spent six months doing extensive stock research and formulating a plan. During the past two months, I...

The media are certainly experts in hyperbole. In fact, it seems to me that at least a bit of the blame can be placed on their shoulders. Consider this for example: http://money.cnn.com/2008/10/12/markets/markets_su nday/?post... The Dow swung over 1000 points between its low and high Friday - the first time ever in its 112-year history. Sure -- the sentence is true, but absolute ...

Some particularly good oversold large cap picks I've been looking at lately include Amex, GE, JNJ, PG, Merck, Kraft, Bank of America, Pfizer, Microsoft, and Wal-Mart. I don't usually like to keep it simple, but this prompted me to notice that the DJIA companies make an unusually good collection of choices right now. Average cost is under 1x sales---I don't have the figures to say how ...

Recommendations: 0 Hi Everyone, I am new to SA although I used to follow MF when the brothers first were on AOL, this was years ago. Anyway's, is there an area of the site that talks about the better bond funds? I have used a Vanguard Corporate bond fund for monthly dividends and then reinvested the dividends in Mutual funds. The NAV of the fund is dropping 2-3% each day and I have ...

While poster David Donhoff has made extensive claims of professional accomplishment and licensing, any efforts to verify those claims has so far come up with an empty sack. In his latest post on this issue, Mr. Donhoff makes the modest claim that he is licensed as a mortgage broker in Washington State: <<SP, Still no statement of what licenses you may have together with information ...

Need some sound advice. For the last 5 years I have been working at a great place that pays me pretty well. I have 3 children, the oldest will be 8 soon and the youngest is about 20 months old and my wife has been a stay-at-home-mom for the last 8 years as a result. 5+ years ago we had 40K in credit card debt, all of which I have paid off. We also paid off all of our remaining college ...

I know this may go more on the PA board, but I'm sitting here listening to the debate, and McCain talking about health care, and his plan for a $5K tax credit for health insurance. Does he not know how much health insurance costs?? $5K wouldn't even come CLOSE to providing reasonable coverage for a family. It's not even close to a "gold-plated" health plan... that's pretty bottom of ...
