I've had heartburn since i was young, but over the last year or so I've had a recurring problem of incredible pain associated with swallowing. Most often I have this symptom the first time of the day i eat, or right after waking up. Bread seems to be the worst thing to try swallowing. Drinking liquids helps, but the pain at times can be extremely severe. It feels as if the food has to rip its ...

I am trying a completely holistic approach to dealing with my GERD and I have been using DGL licorice for the past 2 months. I find that if I do start getting the sensation of acid reflux, I chew two DGL licorice tablets (which taste horrible) and it works like a charm. Yes, I realize Tums and Rolaids tastes better than DGL licorice but DGL licorice is a natural substance and has no side ...

Hi everyone! I'm rather new here and I thought I'd start an interesting discussion. Here is what I read recently: "We have been told for years that coffee, acidic fruit as well as spicy foods can aggravate acid reflux. Therefore, we should avoid these in our daily diet in order to reduce acid reflux. A recent study published in the Archives of Internal Medicine showed that none of these myths ...

Has anyone had this test done recently? I had an endoscopy earlier this week to check for Eosinophilic Esophagitis (which came back negative) and my Gastro is recommending that I come back in for the 48-hour bravo acid test. From what I understand, they are telling me that I do not need to be sedated for this. I would love to hear any information if you have had this done!

I have a 13yo son diagnosed with "silent reflux" that is no longer so silent. In August of 2007 he had an esophageal dilation to correct a stricture and was recommended for Nissen fundoplication. The only drugs we have tried are Zantac and,for a short while, Nexium. I am loathe to put him through a dangerous surgery that may or may not correct the problem and may leave him with more side ...

I would be interested in hearing from anyone that has had the Halo Ablation or Barrx treatment for Barretts. Was it painful? Did it completely remove all your Barretts? Do you still have to get an EGD to monitor recurrance in the future?

I'm the last person who wants censorship in anything anyone says or does, but is the anything that can be done about the 'bravo test boy?' It's fine if someone disagrees with a test or procedure for a reason, but we've had weeks of seeing these same posts come up again and again. If this person has a valid reason it would be nice if he/she/it spelled out what's going on so that people would ...

I have been taking Prilosec OTC for several years with great success. Recently, within the last month or so, I have been troubled by a salty tasting mouth. I have tried all sorts of things, cut out different supplements, changed some eating habits. Has anyone else ever experienced this while taking Prilosec long term?
