Just a follow up to this message. http://boards.fool.com/Message.asp?mid=27131118 Toyota Motor tanked yesterday on announcing sharply reduced earnings forecasts. The price drop 9.37%. However, the price for Toyota Industries tanked even more, 12.47% Admitting that there may be a flaw somewhere in my calculations, the current prices imply the following: Toyota Motor Shares ...

I'm considering the idea of leveraging [prudently] into high-yield div payers in this discounted market environment. I was very lucky to have avoided much of the damage this year, I moved to 90% cash in March [switching jobs, felt it time to move to cash and focus my attention on the new job - pure luck, I do not believe in fruitless atttempts at market timing]. Besides moving 60-80% ...

Many folks have been debating whether the broad US market is overvalued or undervalued based on the lessons of history. I think it's pretty much in the middle of the road, but there seems little doubt that there are quite a few individual companies that seem extremely undervalued. Here is another little screen to look for some of them that might be worth further investigation. I ...

ALD has declared a quarterly dividend of $.65, payable around 12/15 or so. At the price this morning that would make the yield around 21%. Beyond this div nothing has been said and ALD is likely husbanding cash. The price of the stock could do anything here, of course (except likely go up very far), but this seems like an interesting dividend play, if somewhat speculative. I ...

There is no particular shortage of fantastic deals out there. But, it is possible that Leucadia National is one of the best. It's also possible it isn't, since it's a notoriously difficult company to value, unless you are prepared to value all their individual enterprises separately and add up the result. All of the information is presented extremely clearly in their reports, with ...

I have just a little bit of cash left over and will put in a limit of $3000 in Berkshire B for Monday, hoping the (anticipated) drop in their earnings over the weekend will produce more craziness. Wonder if anyone else is going lower. I admit, $3000 is arbitrary and chosen only because it got that low a couple of weeks ago. $2500? MDC? Jim? Rog

Not a lot to say. They're back to their 52 week lows, withing rounding error. Berkshire Hathaway got a lot of press by getting some discounted shares and warrants at $115 per share recently. So, the rough line of reasoning is--- If Mr Buffett thought $115 was a good price for 10% preferred, maybe today's $77.76 is a good price for common. Assuming no change in dividend of $1.40 for ...
