I've been transferring 10% of our net paychecks into savings. I'm trying to build up an e-fund. Is the suggestion to build up the efund in addition to 10% into savings, or is the efund supposed to be part of the same bucket of overall savings? We are currently contributing up to the employer match to our 401Ks, so I am not including those contributions in my 10% transfers. Thanks...

I was thinking of asking my CC company to lower my limit from $16.5k to $10k. I seldom use it and don't ever carry a balance. Would doing this affect my credit score? It is a MC I have had for many years (17 years) and don't want to close, just minimize the available credit limit. Any thoughts?

This is from the ABC News site. It's an article about how one spouse will lie to another about how much debt there is, where the money is going, what the exact situation is until problems spiral out of control and not only are the finances threatened, but also the marriage. (I think I hear several posters, including regulars, lurkers, and occasionals, jumping up and down screaming "yes...

I checked my Citibank account today and found I was $5.37 "overdrawn" (their words). Someone had just presented a check I wrote 3 months ago. (Yes, I had noted that outstanding check in my monthly reconciliation, but just forgot about it.) I have always had Citi's "Checking Plus" overdraft protection. I very rarely use this feature, but on the few occasions I have, I have always ...

I know this is off topic on this board, but LBYM doesn't appeal to me anymore, and I know that a lot of people here are always trying to save money so I thought it might fit. I get emails of my grocery store's circulars (Stop & Shop) and usually I just hit delete, but last night I didn't. It is so nicely laid out and easy to create a list by just clicking on the items. The list also ...

Board: Great news on my war on debt! My wife and I are expecting sometime in April, the tentative date is 07APR. She had to put her letter of resignation in for her school since we will become a single income family when we add one. Well, since she will have reached her contract obligation, the school system will continue to pay her until the end of August! While she is at home with...

We use a single business credit card and pay off the average $15K monthly balance in full every single month. We also have several other unused cards with a $0 balance. We are now faced with a situation where we are about to open another business as well as needing to pay for unforeseen medical expenses. We were recently offered a promotional balance transfer with 0% APR until 01/...

From the FBI tapes of the lobbyists and the legislator (these guys have been sentenced to prison) In the hotel room, where A (oil field company guy) holds court, K said "I owe seventeen thousand dollars on a credit card that's in collection: they're pushing' me real hard and I don't have the money. I am hoping to be able to get myself together enough to post a comprehensive introduction to my credit card situation soon, but wanted to get an immediate concern out there for thoughts right away. In the envelope with the latest statement for one of our Chase cards was a change notice. There was no note on the statement, nor was this change notice annotated at all with the online ...

I don't think layaway is a good idea right now because retailers are probably going to be severly cutting prices closer to and after Christmas. Plus, IMHO layaway continues the "buy it whether you can afford it" mentality. Sure you're only paying a little at a time, but if it's really a WANT, than you can always live without it if it's not in stock once you save up money. And even ...

I will be taking a trip abroad next month and am interested to know of any credit cards you would recommend. I like the consumer protection a credit card provides, but I understand some companies are charging unusually high exchange rates these days. I'm willing to sacrifice any miles/points/cash back perks if I can find a card with a good exchange rate. Lockmama

I applied for and received a Chase Freedom card about three weeks ago, as I was intrigued by its rewards structure and will make good use of it. I obtained a great credit limit for my needs and have been planning to use it for basically all of my purchases (paying in full each month of course) to earn the cash back rewards. Yesterday I noticed on the Chase website that the cash rewards...

Probably preaching to the choir on this one but Chase changed my due date this month by about 5 days. It has been the 13 or 14th for about a year now (the same as another card i have). This month it was the 8th. So, I was late. Customer Service did remove the late fee after I asked nicely but it ticks me off that when I double checked the balance due (as I do every month before ...

(Long-time lurker, thanks to everyone on this board for (indirectly) helping my wife and I get back on our feet after a financially disastrous first five years of marriage.)
