Will the price fall below the investments per share, valuing everything else at zero? Suddenly BRK has become as toxic as sub prime. I had no idea that 2008 would be so destructive of wealth. It's a catastrophe. And it didn't even take a Lenin, Castro, Chavez (or Stan O'Neal, Chuck Prince or Herbert Hoover for that matter) to get there.

Gets a LOUD endorsement from Cramer. Interview with CEO Sandy Cutler. Eaton has diversified away from auto and US by acquiring companies aggressively in power management and hydraulics and increasing business in Europe. CEO saw slow down coming last year and issued equity earlier this year at $84 to pay down debt. CEO says dividend is safe at almost 5%. PE is around 6 times 2008 EPS ...

Two months ago: http://www.businessweek.com/bwdaily/dnflash/conten t/sep2008/... "Warren Buffett has powerful coattails. Within 14 hours of Buffett's ride to the rescue of Goldman Sachs (GS), with a $5 billion cash infusion and warm praise for the struggling investment banking titan, Goldman on Sept. 24 found other investors to snap up $5 billion worth of its stock. The outfit's rapid-...

I am a lurker and have benifitted from from this boards discussions. I thank the board for providing a place to learn. I am trying to figure out how to value a bank in these interesting times. At last years AGM it seemed Warren said avoid banks and Charley said it maybe a fruitful area to prospect in. I have been following the Bank of Ireland for 6 months and today it traded at 0.7 ...

7 1/3% today alone.... On more than one occasion i've read the comment hedge funds are being forced to liquidate to cover redemptions. How likely is this? One year ago we had a melt up....now its a melt down. Either way, i simply don't see the fundementals of Warrens underlying business supporting either long term. Time to take my thumb out of my mouth. m

The drop today reminded me of Charlie's words a few years back at a Wesco Mtg. To paraphrase he said that Berkshire has about 70 B in Cash and Bonds that is earning ridiculously low rates of return. If you add the cash and bonds up today you get the same 70 B figure. Charlie said it is a problem but a good problem to have. He also quiped that Warren just keeps getting better with age and...

For those of you flummoxed by the recent price action in Berkshire's stock, look no further than the recent reported price action in Berkshire credit default swaps. In 2006, the premium required to insure against default on 10 million dollars of Berkshire debt was about $2,000. In mid 2007 it was $25,000. In the middle of this year, it was $125,000. In the beginning of October it was $...

I'm just doing some research on Public Storage (ticker: PSA). Absolutely fascinating company. Storage space has relatively inelastic demand. PSA does not finance growth largely through debt but rather issuance of preferreds. Anyone follow this stock?

I apologize in advance to board members here because I realize this discussion is more of a worship session than a stock analysis board, but hey thems the breaks. I suspect Berkshire stock may take a dive at some upcoming point (perhaps not after the Q3 on Monday or maybe so) and I am wondering what would be a good price to buy this up. (I have been a long time holder but sold out of ...

At today's price of approximately $70/share, Goldman Sachs shares would need to appreciate by 65% to reach Berkshire's strike price of $115/share. At the time of the agreement the $115 share price represented an 8% discount to the then market price. Of course Berkshire has not lost one cent on this deal; the preferred stock carries only a 10% coupon, not an equity position. One ...

BRK is down with no bottom in sight. Timing is everything: I could have sold in 1998 at 80K and bought Treasuries. I could have sold last year at 149K. I did neither. Does anyone else have similar regrets/

i find this trend of writing in run-on sentences and fragments with little or no punctuation or capitalization annoying, why does it occurÂ… How to stop ignore or just grit teeth and trudge through? Reading should be easy; writing is what should be hardÂ…ask 2 much of your readers and u lose them Or me anyway would not hire anyone writes that way, piss me off. i think mr frowny face...

KHD Humbolt dropped 33% today on positive earnings because they warned about the cancellation of contracts in the 4th quarter and a nuclear winter for their business next year. Despite this bad news KHD is sitting on $13 a share in cash and is selling for $8.80 at the close. This is, in my book, a no brainer. How often does such a cash cow sell at such a steep discount to the cash on ...

Despite the ugly headlines regarding Q3, I didn't find it so bad. The two-column approach suggested that intrinsic value remained roughly unchanged (and this is ignoring the fact that some good investments appear to have been made: GS, GE, CEG). 2 Column Approach First column: Value of investments per "A" share is $86,218 (excludes finance and utility which are part of the second ...
